Improve Implementation of Pathways to Increase Recruitment and Retention
Priority for Current Fiscal Health Review: Medium
Savings/Revenue: $$
Time to Achieve: Actions related to this recommendation are in progress (e.g Advising Standardization Commission, FiSH, Student Success Collaborative, etc.). Action related to the new aspects of this recommendation can begin immediately. It is anticipated that the additions can be achieved in 1-3 years; however, the recommendation should be monitored and updated as needed annually.
- Adopt/Revise guided pathways in collaboration with community colleges, including Articulation Agreements and Early Assurance Programs.
- Promote list of current/future programs/institutional partners: For example, the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics residential program graduates who successfully complete all NCSSM’s graduation requirements and remain in good standing are guaranteed admission to any UNC System universities to which they apply. A strategic recruitment/retention plan specific to NCSSM students may be useful.
- Collaboration with CCs and community partners: One strategy recommended by Working Group members was to have ECU personnel go to community College campuses to, in essence, enroll students and provide advisement “on the spot”. A virtual option might be viable as well. A virtual option might work similarly to the “Academic Night” concept which is may be a needed introduction to degree programs. This recommendation suggests that more direct advisement would be beneficial.
- Create an inventory of associate degrees that directly lead to established pathways, and market heavily to those students. Consider increased promotion/improving communication and access regarding Transfer Portal. Ensure training regarding degree requirements is available on an updated/continual basis (audience: personnel providing program information/advisement to students) Find innovative ways to adopt less of a “course-by-course” in favor of a “degree- based” evaluation for associate degree earners.
